French Ski Resorts Welcome Winter Olympics

Skiingproperty.com acknowledges the Winter Olympics’ history in the French Alps by highlighting four essential ski resorts.

South Korea’s hosting of the 2018 Winter Olympics in February offered an opportunity to promote winter sports to the world while demonstrating the diversity of today’s skiing destinations, according to Skiingproperty.com.
“The Winter Olympics is always exciting and it will be no different in PyeongChang,” said Skiingproperty.com director Julian Walker. “This hugely popular quadrennial event was in fact born in the French Alps, specifically in Chamonix in 1924. It returned to France in 1968, to Grenoble, and then again in 1992, to Albertville. For those French resorts that were fortunate enough to participate, the Olympics helped put them on the map and have become an important part of their history.”

Les Arcs — Speed skiing

Part of the Paradiski ski area in the Savoie region, Les Arcs hosted the exhilarating speed skiing at the 1992 Winter Olympics. The event involves skiing as fast as possible down a straight downhill run, such that competitors often exceed 200 kilometres per hour. The resort’s Olympic speed run, known as the ‘Kilometre Lancé’ (Flying Kilometre), is in the Aiguille Rouge area of Les Arcs 2000, where the slopes are especially steep. Pro speed skiers still use it today while the public can use it under supervision. Skiingproperty.com has new-build apartments in Les Arcs, available from €200,000.

Méribel — Ice hockey and Alpine skiing

Picturesque Méribel, a favourite with British skiers, is located in the centre of the vast Trois Vallées ski area, making it ideally placed for hosting two events at the 1992 Olympics — the ice hockey and women’s Alpine skiing. A legacy of this is the resort’s impressive indoor ice rink, the Patinoire Olympique, built for the Olympics and which now includes a swimming pool and restaurant. Skiingproperty.com has luxury property for sale in Méribel, including the newly built 4-bedroom chalets from €2.9 million.

Val d’Isère — Alpine skiing

Testament to the quality of the slopes around trendy Val d’Isère, the resort played a key part in the 1992 Olympics. Part of the Espace Killy ski area, which includes Tignes, the resort hosted all bar one of the men’s Alpine skiing events, including the downhill, super-G, giant slalom and combined. The resort’s famous Face de Bellevarde, a thrilling black run, was integral to these events and today remains a highlight of skiing at Val d’Isère. Skiingproperty.com has luxury off-plan apartments in Val d’Isere, available from €1.3 million.

Courchevel — Ski jumping and Nordic combined

Internationally exclusive Courchevel played its part in the 1992 Olympics by hosting the jumping and Nordic combined at its Le Praz (1,300) village. The Courchevel Valley also benefited from the creation of accommodation for competitors in the village of La Tania. Skiingproperty.com has new luxury apartments in Courchevel, available from €825,000.

First-Ever Crystal Lagoon in U.S. Is Filled

Metro Development Group, a leading Tampa developer of master planned communities, has completed the first-ever Crystal Lagoons’ amenity in the U.S.

After much anticipation and excitement, the long-awaited first Crystal Lagoons’ amenity is full as of today, forever changing the landscape of master planned communities. Metro Development Group commemorated the first-ever Crystal Lagoons’ amenity in the U.S. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 5.
“Metro Development Group is excited to be the first to bring this amazing amenity to the U.S.,” said Greg Singleton, president of Metro Development Group. “We have celebrated many milestones with Crystal Lagoons over the past two years and we are proud to have earned the distinction of being the first developer to inaugurate a Crystal Lagoons’ amenity in the U.S.”
To mark the occasion, Metro is planning an exciting grand opening celebration in spring 2018 where Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps is scheduled to appear.
Residents will soon enjoy the 7.5-acre crystal-clear lagoon and a variety of aquatic recreational activities, such as swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. The lagoon at Epperson will have exciting features, including a waterslide, private cabanas, swim-up bar, tidal pool, an entertainment plaza and much more.
Metro Development Group partnered with Crystal Lagoons back in September 2015 to be the first developer to bring these crystal-clear lagoons to the U.S. Epperson is the first of five lagoon projects that Metro is building in Florida. Metro is the first U.S. developer to get approved plans, first to break ground, and now Metro is the first developer to fill a Crystal Lagoons’ amenity in the U.S.
Now that the first of Metro’s five planned lagoons is full, the others won’t be too far behind. Metro Development Group will soon break ground on a second Lagoon at the Metro Places community Southshore Bay, located in Southern Hillsborough County in early 2018. Upon completion, each lagoon uses 50 times less water compared to a park of the same size and 30 times less water than an 18-hole golf course. The lagoon is maintained by Crystal Lagoons’ ultra-sonic technology that uses sensors to monitor the quality of the crystal-clear water. This sustainable technology also uses 100 times less chemicals than a traditional swimming pool and uses up to 50 times less energy than conventional pool filtration systems.
This first full Crystal Lagoons’ amenity in the nation is also part of the first ever Connected City, which has been designated the first “Smart Gigabit Community” in the country to be built from the ground up. Metro Places exclusive technology, ULTRAFi, provides the fastest internet and WiFi speeds in the nation throughout the homes, the community and the lagoon.

Suncadia Real Estate Achieves 24 Percent Sales Increase

With more than 6,000 acres of forested mountain landscape, three championed golf courses and world class spa treatments, this resort community attained the highest sales volume this year since its establishment in 2003.

Suncadia, Washington’s picturesque four-season resort community located 80 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade mountain range, has announced a 24 percent increase in sales of homes and homesites for 2017.
“Seattle is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.,” said Richard Seay, vice president of Suncadia Real Estate. “Spurred by companies like Amazon and Microsoft, the economy is booming. Suncadia offers professional workers an idyllic year-round escape from the hustle and bustle of the city while experiencing an authentic Pacific Northwest destination.”
After recording consecutive years of increased sales in 2015 and 2016, Suncadia Real Estate has 204 transactions in 2017 that account for more than $85 million in sales.

“2017 has been a monumental year for growth at Suncadia as we’ve seen our community welcome hundreds of homeowners and families with the sale of more than 87 homes and condominiums, as well as 117 homesites,” said Seay. “We see the strength of the current market continuing to press forward and are already seeing extremely high levels of interest in anticipation of our 2018 releases. The lifestyle and amenities at Suncadia are becoming highly sought-after from regional, national and international buyers, too.”
This past summer, Suncadia opened their last golf frontage neighborhood, Legacy, featuring single family homesites on Prospector Golf Course. The release event resulted in selling 24 of the 32 homesites available. In October of 2017, phase one of Miner’s Camp sold out, leading the developer to announce the addition of five new homes to the market at the end of November.
Over the past decade, the Suncadia Real Estate Sales Company team has maintained an average market share of 90 percent of all properties sold within the Suncadia community.
Since 2003, the community has expanded, offering 10 neighborhoods with access to the resorts amenities including over 40 miles of hiking and biking trails, award-winning resort golf courses Prospector and Rope Rider, Portals Restaurant, Suncadia Club Swim & Fitness Center and Glade Spring Spa.
