Denver’s Kimpton Hotel Opens Its Doors

Every detail of Kimpton Hotel Born Denver — from Bavarian inspired materials to exposed concrete ceilings, from floor-to-ceiling windows to 700 original works — has been crafted to impart an elevated, urban vibe that is uniquely Colorado.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brings dynamic luxury to Denver with the opening of Kimpton Hotel Born Denver.
“Denver is one of the most dynamic places in the country right now and the opening of Hotel Born is another major milestone for the Mile High City,” said Hotel Born General Manager Von DeLuna. “We sit at the end of the Union Station platform, but in the heart of the city, making Hotel Born the hub of Denver’s incredible arts, culture, dining and entertainment scenes, as well as, of course, the outdoors.”

Developed by Continuum Partners and designed by Denver-based Semple Brown in collaboration with Ellen Bruss of Ellen Bruss Design, Hotel Born has been modernly crafted. A balance of handcrafted wood, concrete and metal capture Denver’s sophisticated locale. With pine paneling, custom millwork and walnut herringbone floors, the lobby is contemporary yet inviting. Hand-woven rugs, textured materials, warm lighting and custom furniture pieces make it feel like a home.
The exterior of the building reflects the brick masonry of LoDo’s original historic warehouses while the floor-to-ceiling windows give the hotel a striking presence distinct from any adjacent buildings.

Hotel Born’s 200 guest rooms — including 40 suites and 2 premier suites — feature dark brown and gold herringbone patterned carpet and a mix of traditional and modern furniture offset by fresh white walls. To merge indoor and outdoor spaces, each room features large floor-to-ceiling windows.
“Continuum Partners has been at the center of Denver’s urban evolution for the last 20 years, including our role as co-master developer of the Union Station Transit Station,” said Mark Falcone, CEO and founder of Continuum Partners. “We designed Hotel Born to reflect a spirit and aesthetic that we see as distinctly Denver and the opening of its doors today is a culminating moment not only for our team, but also for the Union Station neighborhood and the entire city.”
One of the most unique aspects of Hotel Born is the art collection, which is composed of more than 700 original works by Denver-area artists. Adam Lerner, director of the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art, asked 32 of the most talented artists in the city to produce work specifically for the hotel. Approximately 300 works are displayed in the hotel’s public spaces and corridors, with the rest in guest rooms.

The design aesthetic of wood is timeless, yet it lacks durability and longevity, especially near water or in high-traffic areas. This new collection replicates the look of wood, while offering the maintenance-free durability and versatility of porcelain.

“Porcelain is trending at the forefront of the home décor industry since it has the ability to mimic other materials,” said Jared Becker, Walker Zanger’s vice president of Design and Marketing. “By using our porcelain Grain tile, designers and homeowners can bring the wood aesthetic into their high-end remodels with a luxurious and durable touch.”

Made in Spain with the latest innovations in digital glazing technology, this collection utilizes a subtle variation in four wood tones per color, as well as natural grain and texture, to create the look and feel of real finished wood.

In addition to capturing contemporary European style with clean lines and natural wood grains, the collection also offers an anti-slip option for outdoor use.
“The anti-slip finish makes it an exciting new choice for outdoor use, especially used poolside,” said Becker. “It’s a combination of form and function that has always been desired for safety purposes.”
