Guglielmi Castle is a spectacular property on the olive tree covered island of Isola Maggiore on Lake Trasimeno in Umbria, Central Italy. The Castle walls encompass 96,900 sq. ft. with over 48,000 sq. ft. of view suites and guest rooms. Guglielmi Castle was built in the 1800s on the grounds of a 14th century Franciscan Monastery dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi who live on the island as a hermit in 1211. According to a legend, in 1211, St. Francis threw back a Pike given to him by a local fisherman. The grateful fish followed St. Francis around the lake until the saint dispensed a special blessing in which St. Francis and 'Brother Fish' are commemorated in the island's church. The architectural structure presents high walls which six perimeter towers emerge from. The base is square. All the flat roofs, tower tops and tower bells have a railing and a crenellated battlement. The Castle rests on an expansive 10 acre parcel that features an ancient lower tower, frontage to the lake, coves and pathways that lead around the island and to the village dotted with 14th century buildings and hundred plus year old olive groves. The island is reachable by boat in a few minutes from the Port of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, or from the Port of Passignano sul Trasimeno. The castle is available at 11,000,000 euros as it stands now or completely renovated to a 5 star standard.
